Acceptable Use Policy
Last updated: October 7, 2026
This policy sets out what you can and can't do with your HostMoose hosting. It is part of our Terms & Conditions. HostMoose is operated by BrenCor Digital Enterprises Inc., and your hosting runs on CrocWeb's servers in Montreal, so CrocWeb's rules apply to your account too. This page is a plain-language summary of the rules that matter most. The full documents are CrocWeb's Acceptable Use Policy and Terms of Service. If anything here differs from them, follow the stricter rule.
You're responsible for everything on your account, including what your own customers, staff and developers do.
1. Content you can't host
- Anything illegal, or that infringes someone else's copyright, trademark or other rights
- Phishing, identity theft, or deceptive or fraudulent websites, including pyramid or Ponzi schemes
- Viruses, malware or other malicious code
- Explicit adult content or pornography
- Gambling
- Content that promotes or helps with violence, terrorism, human trafficking or the sexual exploitation of anyone (child sexual abuse material is reported to the police and the account is shut down immediately)
- Illegal drugs, or the unlawful sale of prescription medication
- Sensitive personal information about other people, including health information
Client or patient records, intake forms and other health information must not be stored on HostMoose hosting. That includes health information collected through your website, such as intake or booking forms, and anything kept in your files, databases or email. Our hosting provider doesn't allow health information or other sensitive personal information about other people to be stored on its servers. If your work involves that kind of information (for example a clinic or counselling practice), don't keep it on your hosting account, and talk to us before you sign up.
2. Resources and how you use the server
- Disk space is for your website files and active email only. Don't use your hosting for online file storage, media archives, FTP hosting, or as a backup of other things.
- Don't run file-sharing sites, anonymous proxies, or software that connects to IRC networks.
- Don't run scripts or processes that slow the server down for other customers. Your plan is for a shared hosting environment. If your account uses too much, we may ask you to cut back (for example fewer files, database tables or databases), and we may limit or suspend it if the problem continues, with or without notice.
- Bandwidth is not limited on our shared hosting, but it must be used for your website and email.
3. Security and other networks
- Don't try to get into systems, networks or accounts you don't have permission to use, or probe them for weaknesses.
- Don't launch or join attacks on others, including denial-of-service attacks or botnets.
- Don't intercept or monitor other people's data without permission.
- Don't run automated scraping or indexing that disrupts other sites or our servers.
4. Email and spam
- No spam or unsolicited bulk email, from your account or advertising a site on your account.
- Don't forge or hide email headers or your identity.
- Never send to purchased, rented or scraped lists, and don't sell contact lists.
- If you send marketing email to people in Canada, you must follow Canada's anti-spam law (CASL): get consent, say who you are, and include a working unsubscribe link.
- If your account gets a server or IP address blacklisted, we may suspend or end the service immediately to protect other customers.
5. Backups
Don't use your hosting account as your backup solution. We keep daily backups as a courtesy, but you should keep your own copies. See our Terms.
6. What happens if the rules are broken
- We (or CrocWeb) may remove content, limit, suspend or end your service, with or without notice. We'll try to contact you first when it's safe and practical.
- If we contact you about a complaint or abuse report, please answer within 48 hours. If we don't hear back, we may suspend or end the service.
- We decide how to apply this policy, and we may change it. We'll update the date above when we do.
- Some violations (illegal content, for example) may be reported to the authorities.
- Fees aren't refunded when a service is ended for a violation.
7. Reporting abuse
To report spam, phishing, malware, copyright infringement or other abuse from a site we host, email abuse@hostmoose.ca with the web address and as much detail as you can (for spam, include the full message headers). To report a security vulnerability in HostMoose itself, use security@hostmoose.ca instead; see Security.
